Santa Fe has a way of pulling me back. Maybe it’s the crisp mountain air, the layered history, or the way the light spills across adobe walls in the late afternoon—it just feels joyful, peaceful, and right. Every visit is a mix of the familiar and the unexpected, a balance of rest and inspiration.

Food is always part of the experience. A stop at Paper Dosa for their incredible coconut curry is non-negotiable—comfort in a bowl with just the right amount of spice. Restaurant Martin never disappoints, with its warm, atmosphere and beautifully executed dishes. And then there’s La Choza, a classic, where I get my southwest fix.

Beyond the food, Santa Fe is a treasure trove of visual inspiration. Seret & Sons is like stepping into a different world—rooms filled with carved doors, vibrant textiles, and artifacts that feel like they hold a thousand stories. The Museum of International Folk Art is always a must, reminding me how deeply creativity runs through every culture, inspiring me every visit.

I usually stay at The Inn of the Turquoise Bear, a historic retreat that feels like a secret hideaway—restful, welcoming, and close to everything. From there, it’s easy to wander Canyon Road, taking in the galleries and sculpture gardens (Materiality being my fav.), or explore the Railyard, where art and industry collide in the best way. And, of course, I always take a peek at Meow Wolf—to see my fellow weirdos!

Santa Fe never fails. Whether I go looking for inspiration, a break, or just a really good meal, I always find the joy I need.

Jeffie Brewer's first book, "Joy Machine" was published by K.Co Press in 2024.
